Behavior of metals during thermochemical processing of cast iron hardware in the solid-phase state

Аннотация: The production of iron and steel is based on a two-stage sequential complex for reducing smelting of iron and oxidizing smelting of steel. The result of the first stage is to obtain a carburized metal, and the second stage - on the contrary, its decarburization.
The decarburization of cast iron from the melt according to this scheme is associated with a significant loss of valuable metals and a decrease in the quality of the metal and the technical and economic efficiency of the process. An alternative process for the decarburization of cast iron in the solid state by thermochemical treatment of its working surface using metal oxide powders as a coating and dissolved carbon in the cast iron as a reducing agent is proposed. When such a system is heated to a given temperature and exposure time, the results of direct reduction of the metal with dissolved carbon, decarburization of the surface layer and the introduction of the reduced metal into it are obtained.
