Caravaggio’s influence on the Renaissance in Italy (the appearance of “Caravaggism”)

This article analyzes the influence of one of the world’s most prominent artists, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, on Italian Renaissance painting and on this art movement in general. Detailed attention is paid to the phenomenon of “Caravaggism”, its ideas, pictorial technique and distinctive features. The study uses exploratory, comparative, analytical and art history methods.
