Аннотация: The article is devoted to the topical problem of preserving the identity of nations in the modern society. The role of religious identity in this process is considered. The role of religious identity among other identities is reflected. The author comes to the conclusion that in the context of globalization with its processes of mass migration and the mixing of ethnicities, cultures, traditions and religions, religious identity along with other kinds of identity plays an important role in the process of preserving nations and nationalities. The author considers religious identity as a theoretical construct, a way of representing and idealizing the object of research and as a view which is an analogue to the concept of self-consciousness.
The author claims that religious identity is compared, first of all, with ethnic identity.
