Аннотация: The term «iconography» began to be used in 1603 in Cesare Ripa's work «Iconology». In 1840, the method of iconography was used in France and Germany as a way to study medieval art. In the 17th century, iconography was defined as the juxtaposition of images with religious texts. This article explores the subject of replacing religious iconography with pop culture iconography, which appeared in the 60s of the XIX century.
